SOAR Success Story: Malachi's Reading Breakthrough

We're excited to share the inspiring story of Malachi, a rising 4th grader who has made remarkable progress through our FLiP program.

Malachi joined our Summer 2024 cohort at Jamerson Elementary School as a 3rd grader, initially struggling with reading. After just 11 weeks in the SOAR program, Malachi's relationship with reading has transformed significantly.

Malachi

Starting at a Text Instruction Reading (TIR) level of 1, Malachi has progressed to level 2, dedicating 2,597 minutes to the program under FLiP Coach Nicole Nouri's guidance. The impact of SOAR's program is beautifully captured by Carol Williams, Malachi's grandmother: "This program is a God send. I asked my grandson Malachi to read the instructions for an activity as I did not have my glasses on. He normally reads SO slow as if he is in pain. But this time his whole attitude has changed. He was eager to read and I never heard him read with such confidence and excitement. Not to mention the speed and accuracy! He finally can read!"

Through our FLiP program, which integrates singing with reading instruction, Malachi has discovered a new love for reading. We've seen significant improvements in his reading speed, accuracy, confidence, and overall enthusiasm. As Malachi moves into 4th grade, we're confident that his newfound skills and passion for reading will serve him well in all future endeavors.

Malachi's success story exemplifies how SOAR is making a difference in children's lives. We're grateful to all the families who trust us with their children's education. Together, we're singing our way to a brighter, more literate future!
