Ending illiteracy through the power of singing
The Need
Every child deserves an equal chance to succeed.
There is an urgent, nationwide need to raise the literacy levels of struggling young readers. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), two-thirds of children around the country cannot read at grade level. These children are at risk of never being able to read proficiently.
Reading proficiency in the United States has not changed in 50 years.
75% of children who read poorly at age 9 will struggle to read for the rest of their lives.
Students who do not read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade are 4 times more likely to drop out.
The Family
Literacy Project
The Family Literacy Project, or “FLiP” for short, is the most time and cost-effective way to help struggling young readers achieve reading proficiency.
Our fun, tablet-based approach helps kids through the power of singing, improve their reading one full grade level in 3 months’ time. Qualified families are given everything they need to get started.
Our Donors Make it Possible
Sing Out and READ is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and through the kindness and generosity of our donors, we are able to provide the Family Literacy Project to qualifying families free of charge.
For every $2,500 we receive, five children are saved from the risk of illiteracy. If you’re interested in supporting our program, please consider donating.
We're looking forward to sharing the latest updates, news and event information with you. By signing up, you agree to receive Sing Out and READ's quarterly newsletters and occasional email updates directly to your inbox.
