Celebrating Our Mt. Zion Fall 2024 Cohort

February 12, 2025 - St. Petersburg

Sing Out and READ recently celebrated remarkable achievements from our Mt. Zion Fall 2024 cohort in St. Petersburg. The celebration event marked the culmination of months of dedicated reading practice and progress for these young literary enthusiasts.

Celebrating Reading Milestones

Our Mt. Zion cohort demonstrated exceptional commitment to developing their reading skills, collectively logging an impressive 11,429 minutes of reading time throughout the program. This dedication translated into real academic progress, with students achieving an average reading level improvement of 0.9 grades.

We're particularly proud to announce that 10 students reached our first major program milestone of completing 900 minutes of reading. This achievement represents countless hours spent building literacy skills that will serve them throughout their academic careers and beyond.

A Celebration to Remember

The February 12th celebration brought together students and their families to recognize these remarkable achievements. Students received certificates acknowledging their hard work and dedication and were also awarded prize tablets to further support their educational journey.

A few parents shared heartfelt testimonials expressing pride in their children's accomplishments and gratitude for the program's impact on their reading journey.

The celebration concluded with refreshments including drinks, cupcakes, and cookies, providing a festive atmosphere to honor the participants' accomplishments.

Thank you Ms. Phyllis for introducing my son to this program. You were there any time we had a problem, guiding us through the process day in and day out and seeing that we made it to the finish line. Sing Out and READ helped my son stay on track with learning new words and problem solving. Thanks again.”

SOAR Parent

I like the program because it's helping her with her vocabulary and not just her reading level . It also encourages her to do it because she loves to sing! I also like how it challenges her with questions at the end of each song. I believe the program has helped her with wanting to read more other than books.”
